    Description:
    I purchased this beautiful piece at a small auction in NJ. It was proudly displayed in the library in my Victorian house.
    We are now living at the beach in Florida, and this piece is a bit too formal for the new décor.
    The plaque has a terracotta insert that is very much in the style of Clodion.
    Notice the satyrs and the three Muses.
    The terracotta piece is 9.5” in diameter.
    The wood frame has worn gilding on the front. It measures 11.75” in diameter and 1-7/8” deep.
    The backing is wood and is attached by minute nails.
    I cannot remove the back without damaging the piece.
    I collect frames and the piece does have the feel of a pre-1900. It is quite impossible to guarantee the age, especially without taking off the backing.

    There are some small chips in the terracotta (see close-up photos).
    The frame has some loss to the gilding.
    I've taken a photo where the frame was joined as it is visible.
