NGC Certified 6-4 BC ROMAN Bronze AUGUSTUS by Varus of GIVE ME BACK MY LEGIONS!
    Description
This is a coin with a great story.
“Varus, give me back my Legions!”
is the story and it involves both of the men who made and are named on this coin.
The coin was struck between 6 and 4 BC, during the 27 BC – 14 AD reign of the very first
    “Emperor”
of Rome, Augustus, who is pictured on the coin. It was struck in the ancient city of Berytus in Phoenicia, now Beirut in Lebanon. At the time the city was governed by the Roman Governor of Syria whose name appears on the reverse.
He was Publius Quinctillus Vares, who had previously been Governor of the Africa Province. He was the
    “Legate”
with command of 4 Legions in Syria from 7/6 until 4 BC.

    Augustus made Varus the first
    "officially appointed"
    Governor of the newly created
    “Roman Province of Germania”
in 7 AD. In 9 AD Varus led three Legions into the Teutoburg forest where they were ambushed and wiped out by the Germans. Augustus tore his clothes, refused to cut his hair for months and, for years afterwards, was heard, upon occasion, to moan,
"Quinctillius Varus, give me back my Legions!"

    The Coin:
A coin for the person who appreciates and understands the history. A famous disaster for the man on the front, brought about by the man on the back. It has been certified and graded by the
prestigious third-party grading service Numismatic Guaranty Corporation or
    (NGC)
    .
Even though it has been professionally graded, that is just an opinion and grading is subjective, so please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
