    Description

I am so proud to have acquired this piece at auction....to have an original, one-off piece of Nancy Schon is just amazing.
This piece is not part of a series, this is an entirely original, unique piece.
Ms. Schon is famous for her pieces of public art (notably the “Make Way for Ducklings” at the Boston Public Garden) as well as her unique bronze pieces and her small sculptures done in very limited series.
I am reluctantly putting up for sale as it looks like am I moving back up north, and I have too
    many p
ieces to move into a smaller place.
I had acquired this at auction with no provenance....I just recognized the quality of Ms. Schon's work.
It was my great fortune to be able to talk and correspond with the artist, and that she was able to share so much information on this piece and the “Waiting” series.
This was an entirely unique piece done in 1983. Named “Family Waiting,” this was part of a series of other one-off pieces done at that time. Ms. Schon had sold the piece without ever taking a photo of “Family Waiting,” so it was so fantastic to be able to send her some photos for her to to add to her showroom gallery as well as for her to forward to me photos of other pieces in the series. I gladly add this correspondence with the sale of the piece.
Ms. Schon related the premise around the series. It occurred to her that there are certain moments in the human existence that revolve around waiting....the titles of other pieces made at this time are called, “Waiting for the 10
    th
man,” “Waiting for the Next Act,” “Waiting for a Friend.”
This piece is clearly recognizable as her work....the fantastic marble base (blonde), the deftly formed human figures, the overall detail and the revolving stand. When I asked Ms. Schon about why she chose to put her pieces on a revolving stand, she said she designs all her work to be seen from all sides. Very nice indeed.
    Some details on the piece:
    The base measures 13-5/8” wide x 10” deep x 1-3/8” high.
The overall height is 10-3/8” high...which is the top of the head of the back lady.
The base is a blonde marble.
The piece is on a “lazy Susan” revolving base.
There are no chips or cracks on the marble.
The bronze is in excellent condition.
    The piece weighs 41 pounds.
    Signed on the side.
More information about the artist and the lost wax method can be found on her website.
This piece will need to be specially packaged and crated due to the weight. Therefore, shipping may be different or delayed versus what is noted in the listing. Pickup at my house is certainly available.
I have not included an option for Global Shipping.  If you are outside the country and would like to purchase, please contact me.
