DESCRIPTION:
At a full twelve (12) inches in height, this absolutely amazing, highly detailed and articulated bronze metal sculpture of the pedigree breed of dog, the whippet, of the greyhound family, is in fantastic, untouched estate condition and suffers only a few very minor scuffs and superficial abrasions to its surfaces. Unfortunately, after a thorough search of the sculpture, no maker's mark or signature was found. The whippet sculpture is free-standing and was not cut or removed from a base plate. It was never attached to a base and the bottoms of the feet are undisturbed. The figuration is superb, highly detailed and incredibly articulated, with real figurative balance, artistic dexterity and familiarity with the particular whippet pedigree breed, often prized by wealthy, patrician owners. The muscularity and lean, sinewy body of the dog is amazingly realized, as is the curled up front paw of the whippet, placing the dog in an anticipatory, reactionary pose, on three legs and prone, as if patiently waiting for a treat from its owner. Absolutely terrific and in amazingly well-preserved overall antique condition. Just beautiful.
CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
